Coming Back for More

Sorry I've been MIA for the past few weeks. Thanksgiving and learning how to brew beer with some good friends has taken all my time!

Anyway, so in the past few weeks we've had Tinariwen and the Boston Music Trio come to the MFA, and as for now the full concert schedule seems to be taking a bit of a break for the holidays. Fear not though, if you want to get into the Holiday Spirit come on over for the Holiday Show on the 12th. It will feature the New England Conservatory Millenium Gospel Choir, whom of which seem to be highly regarded. Then during the month of December, the museum will have Victorian Carolers and the Amaryllis Chamber Ensemble singing throughout the halls. Also, on Friday the 7th, you can come and meet the Boston Ballet Nutcracker Dancers! Sugar Plum Fairy included!

Ok all, I hope you have a great Holiday season and surely we'll have some more great concerts coming up in the new year.

Sitting...

Just saw Jason Pierce walk in...

I don't even know the band really, but suddenly I just got really excited!

Never heard of Space Rock?

Although I didn't get a chance to go to the last two shows, Yo La Tengo and My Brightest Diamond, I have been hearing great things. Both artists were splashed all over the entertainment section in the Metro and both got great turnout.

So next...

"Drawing on the continued influence of the Velvet Underground, La Monte Young, and Steve Reich, Spiritualized staked out a common ground between minimalism and lush symphonics -- While the infamous Spacemen 3 tag of "taking drugs to make music to take drugs to" remained a cornerstone of their craft, Spiritualized's very name acknowledged the existence of other forces, and further reflected in their heavy debt to gospel and soul music as well as an affinity for mantras and devotional hymns."

Tonight, Spiritualized will be playing. After hopping around for a bit online, I've found that Spiritualized has gone through many a musician with Jason Pierce as the sole permanent member since 1990. Check out a few of Spiritualized songs and tell me what you think!

Elemental Songstress

Her dad: a National Accordion Champion.
Her mother: an organist for a Pentecostal Church

My Brightest Diamond?

Classically trained Avant Rock Princess.

Shara Worden spent most of her life studying opera at the University of North Texas. When her life path took her to New York City, Worden became immersed in an underground realm of intimate pop and vocal theatrics.

Playing on Sunday, November 18th at the Remis Auditorium, Shara will be a definite sight to dive into.

A Sold Out Yo La Tengo

What does Yo La Tengo mean?

"I've got it!"

Which is exactly what Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew do in their eclectic and creative ambition in new age pop.

Even with a double feature, Yo La Tengo has sold out both shows at the MFA this next Thursday the 15th. Let's hope those hot seats are well worth it.

A New Era

It's never been a better time than our media-rich age to meld all art forms together. By bringing musicians into a place that already sees thousands of visitors a day, the MFA of Boston creates an opportunity to hear something other than pop-jams continuously played on the radios. These genuine artists with something to say, or create, will leave you with a taste of a world far too immense to leave invisible.

I will be posting snippets of the up and coming concerts to be held at the MFA. Perhaps not a full bio, but pieces pulled from outside sources to ignite your curiosity. Of course, I will be wanting and trying to attend most of these concerts, as I hope others do. Please leave comments and reviews of what you see, hear, or just think.
